Concerns Over Potential Gridlocks

Logistics industry leaders have recently highlighted concerns that we could witness gridlock on roads, and shortages in shops, if frictionless trade is not preserved between the UK & EU after Brexit.
When the EU single market was established in 1993, it was estimated there were fewer than 3,000 truck crossings a day, but now the number has risen to over 12,000.
Brexit minister Robin Walker replied to the concerns when recently speaking at the Freight Transport Association’s conference in London. He told delegates that the UK government understood the need to maintain systems and processes that allowed the free flow of goods between the UK and the EU. He said it was in the bloc’s interests to strike an agreement.
It remains to be seen whether the industry’s concerns are warranted, or whether an agreement between the UK and EU is reached, but Zenith are monitoring the situation closely.
