Brexit Trucker Shortage

According to a study from the International Road Transport Union, Brexit could increase the shortage of drivers among UK haulage companies.
With the UK’s trucking sector already short on drivers and being heavily reliant on workers from the EU, Brexit could have a potentially destructive impact on the supply chains essential to so many British businesses, the lobby group said last week.
They stated that if the UK closes it doors to drivers from countries like Poland and Romania it’s going to make the shortage even more severe. Which could increase transport costs, delay deliveries and reduce flexibility.
As the industry struggles acquiring young drivers and the current average age of people in the profession at 44, self-driving trucks may be part of the solution.
